City History & Growth

Situated in central Wisconsin along the Wisconsin River, Stevens Point was named after George Stevens, who operated a logging supply post here in the late 1830s. Incorporated as a city in 1858, Stevens Point quickly developed as a primary hub for logging, paper manufacturing, and brewing. Over the decades, it evolved into a thriving educational and cultural center, home to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and historic brewing traditions.
